We were orginally given this horse by Adam Sangster’s Swettenham Stud with the objective to get him to the trials and attempt to sell him into Asia. The then colt had to be withdrawn from the Magic Millions Sales in early 2014 due to travel sickness contracted on route to the sales, so the Swettenham team needed another means to sell the colt. As we did more with him on the training track Princess Park trainer Pat Cannon was keen to aquire the son of Equiano for the farm. An offer to buy the two year old gelding was accepted and Princess Park will race the gedling with clients. By Swettenham Stud imported stallion Equiano, who’s first Australian progeny have been very popular at sales, the colt is out of the well related Keltrice mare Seven Year Itch who is closely related to Caulfield & Melbourne Cup champ VIEWED. Nicknamed Ian Botham after the way he used to bash the Aussies, Equiano beat Takeover Target, Nicconi, Gold Trail and Magnus in winning the Group 1 King Stand Stakes on two occassions at Royal Ascot. He has now been named PUNT CLUB and had his first race in a strong maiden at Swan Hill. He raced super running a close up fourth. After settling on speed the speed and facing the breeze he hit the lead half way down the staright only to tire late.
